Bandwidth Exceeded!
My apologies to the faithful, and it would be nice if it was due to the popularity of the site, but we seem to have had our monthly allocation of bandwidth on the main site gobbled up by… something!
I have no idea yet as to what is going on, but I noticed that 75% was gone yesterday, leaving 25% for the rest (almost half) of the month. I could probably have managed this by selectively barring access at quiet time, it’s was I usually do, but this afternoon there was a message that he site was now closed as the bandwidth had been exceeded.
I’m happy to say that thanks to an anonymous benefactor, we were restored (all say Thank You), though you probably knew before me as I went out in disgust thereafter, and the rest of the night was spent watching Taggart - and looking for inspiration of how to deal with thieving Spammers and Bot-masters.
While the immediate problem is solved, the cause still remains to be identified and killed, as its continued existence, and its return, could kill our site in less than four days every month, as it can eat our usual monthly allocation in that time.
