World War II still alive in Firth of Forth
A World War II mine was discovered on the seabed of the Firth of Forth today, during routing naval minsweeping exercises being carried out off Inchkeith Island by HMS Shoreham.
The mine was find in a busy shipping channel, and will be detroyed in a controlled explosion to be carried out later in the day, with Forth Coastguard ensuring that all vessels are clear of the area ahead of the detonation.
Makes you think twice about having a day at the seaside, when the kids find a handy pile of half-bricks dumped by some lazy weekend developer, and they decide it’s time to lob them into the water to see who can make the biggest splash!
