Hungry cats trick owners with baby cry mimicry

New Scientist reports that hungry cats trick owners with baby cry mimicry.

I don’t know where they got their cats or owners for this one, but those of us with cats don’t usually get off with anything as trivial and gentle as a little bit of purring when the cat wants to be fed.

Instead, rather than something that might go unnoticed like a change in frequency content of it’s purr, the cat is more likely to be found permanently attached to your feet, so you fall over it every time you try to walk somewhere.

If you’re sitting down, then the cat will appear on your lap – staring accusingly into your eyes to drop the hint that feeding time has passed.

If you’re asleep, then your face will be pawed until you return to conciousness, and you wake up face-to-face with your hungry pet. And don’t sleep to heavily – those claws can still be extended if the cat is feeling particularly hungry and neglected.

And don’t expect any sympathy if you’re ill – as far as the cat is concerned, feeding comes first!

And then there are the ones that just sit near their feeding dish and cry.

PURRING?

Far too subtle and likely to go unnoticed methinks.
