Secret Scotland

If it's secret, and in Scotland…

Don’t miss this video of a mad bad man – Donald Trump

I would not normally recommend anyone look at anything that involved American megalomaniac Donald Trump, but on this occasion I do recommend being in on Sunday night to watch a film about this tyrant.

There’s not a lot I can can add to any comments about vile billionaire Trump that is not already written in the press, and proven by the drivel that pours forth from his own mouth whenever he opens it, or has his mouthpiece George Sorial save him the effort.

It seems that if you have the money, and the ability to keep on repeating the lies you believe regardless of any evidence to the contrary, you can just plough on regardless over the top of anyone who might get in your way. It’s important to act fast and get in there quick too, before they have a chance to offer any resistance or defend themselves. And you want to make sure they have little, if any money to spare, so that even if they try to use the courts, they will be wiped out even if they try, as they may not be guaranteed to get legal aid.

Sunday night, October 21 at 22:00 sees the first full showing on television of the 90-minute You’ve been Trumped:

Filmmaker Anthony Baxter charts the conflict between a group of Scottish homeowners and American tycoon Donald Trump as the business mogul prepares to build a huge golf resort on an environmentally protected site in Aberdeenshire. Baxter follows the local residents as they make their last stand in the face of security harassments, legal threats and the loss of their water and electricity supplies, capturing the cultural chasm between the jet-setting Trump and a deeply rooted Scottish community.

Local Hero and Donald Trump: ‘a malign mix of bullying, muscle flexing and craven politicians’ | UK news | guardian.co.uk

To sum up, the big screen debut of the put upon citizens of Balmedie beach presents a moving depiction of human survival and dignity amidst murky doings akin to seventies Romania.

As for Mister Trump’s contribution, I see that he’s appropriated at least the cashmere coat of my own eighties’ screen villain Happer, but that’s not quite enough. Performance-wise, Trump is just “Johnny One Note” from beginning to end.

None of the on-screen events change or move him in any way. At the end of the film he’s exactly the same as he started. If he really wants to cut the mustard up there on the big screen the advice is go get yourself an arc. Problem is it usually takes a lifetime.

Donald Trump’s organisation attacks film-maker as ‘misinformed jackass’ | World news | The Guardian

The director said You’ve Been Trumped, an award-winning documentary investigating the experiences of Trump’s nearest neighbours being shown on BBC2 this Sunday, was “akin to 1970s Romania”.

He said: “We’re watching real lives and livelihoods mercilessly put to hazard by a malign concoction of egotistical bullying, corporate muscle-flexing, craven averting of gaze by national politicians and crass misreading of events by local authorities, including police.”

Trump’s right-hand man, George Sorial, retorted that Forsyth was simply trying to exploit Trump’s fame. He told the Daily Mail: “Mr Forsyth is nothing more than a misinformed jackass looking for a few headlines on the back of the Trump name.”

Sorial had initially refused to respond to Forsyth’s criticisms after being contacted by the Guardian on Wednesday.

He instead described the documentary as a “gross misrepresentation of the facts” which presented “the myopic views of a very small fringe element that are not respected and are widely regarded as a national embarrassment for Scotland”.

Earlier this week, Trump published several hostile tweets about the documentary by Anthony Baxter, describing those who objected to his golf course as “morons” who had “made my development far more successful than anticipated”.

He also told Baxter: “Your documentary has died many deaths. You have, in my opinion, zero talent.” The film has won 10 film festival awards around the world. The radical film-maker Michael Moore said it had “blown him away”.

From: Sunday, October 21, 2012, until 12:49 am, Tuesday, October 30, 2012.

Anthony Baxter’s film on the David and Goliath-style conflict between a group of proud Scottish homeowners and American tycoon Donald Trump, as he gets set to build a huge golf resort on an environmentally protected site in Aberdeenshire.

Baxter follows the local residents as they make their last stand in the face of security harassments, legal threats and the loss of their water and electricity supplies. Baxter himself becomes international news after being thrown in jail following an interview with Mr Trump’s green keeper.

Told entirely without narration, the film captures the cultural chasm between the glamorous, jet-setting and media-savvy Donald Trump and a deeply rooted Scottish community. For the tycoon, the golf course is just another deal, with a possible billion dollar payoff. For the residents, it represents the destruction of a globally unique landscape that has been the backdrop for their lives.

Unmissable, and shows Trump to be both arrogant and ignorant.

More worryingly, it shows he seems to own the Scottish Government, Aberdeen Council, and Grampian Police.

And then there’s still more bad news, as we see Donald Trump Jr in action – a true ‘chip off the old block’.

It was embarrassing to see the then current Miss Scotland giggling in front of Trump – and him telling someone she should be given a job with his organisation… apparently on the basis of her giggling or appearance.
