Secret Scotland

If it's secret, and in Scotland…

Largs Viking Festival 2013

Viking Longship

Oops…

Almost forgot to mention Largs Viking Festival 2013

This runs from Saturday, August 31 to Sunday, September 8, 2013.

As this year commemorates the 750th anniversary of the Battle of Largs, TWO  villages are being set up for visitors – the Viking and Scots Villages will open every day from 11am to 5pm.

The climax of the week, a re-enactment of the 1263 Battle of Largs, the burning of a Viking longship, and the fireworks spectacular is scheduled for 7.30 – 9.30 pm on the evening of September 7.

Full event details are here:

Largs Viking Festival Programme 2013

There are also galleries of recent festivals, so you can get an idea of what is on offer.

Additional features

Additional attraction to be found are a Scottish Food and Craft Market which will be open every day, an Italian Market from Saturday 31st August to Wednesday 4th September, and a Continental Market from Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th. These will be open from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm on their applicable days.

Owl Magic will also be present during the festival, weather permitting, providing an opportunity to see, touch, and be photographed with a wide variety of beautiful and inspiring birds. All  owls on show have been hand reared and used to being handled.

As always, don’t forget the Scottish weather, and check before travelling, especially if making a trip just for the festival.

I’m not far away, and have left home on a fine day, only to find that the weather on the coast is nothing like the weather at home!
