Glasgow offers free parking in bid to attract late-night shoppers | Glasgow & West | News | STV
Late night shoppers in Glasgow are being offered free parking in selected car parks as part of a month-long initiative to encourage people to spend more time and money in the city centre.
After a strong festive period, 200 retailers are also to continue their extended opening hours to 7pm during the week to try and draw customers in.
Car parks at Concert Square, Cambridge Street, Buchanan Galleries and the St Enoch Centre will all offer free parking from 5pm on weekdays. The initiative will run from January 13 until February 14.
There’s a surprise of sorts, unless…
They’ve finally realised that all the anti-car movement has done is aid what some refer to as The death of the High Street, and we begin to see the punitive anti-car policies as doing more harm than good.
I’ve even see stories about parking fines and CCTV enforcement (in England) being reduced, as councils are charged with using them as revenue raisers rather than means to control and improve traffic flow.
