Secret Scotland

If it's secret, and in Scotland…

Just some old fireplace remains in George Street

Possibly not the most interesting of subjects, but a couple of old fireplaces (or at least their remains) caught my eye on the exposed wall of a partially demolished tenement in Glasgow’s George Street recently.

While the rest had already been trashed and lost, this pair was notable due to the difference between them.

While one appeared to have had its surround replaced with cast concrete, and looked almost indestructible, the other was notable for being almost the exact opposite, and the surround was nothing more than a few loose stacked bricks.

They came with an extra bonus, probably hard to see in the pic, but the original showed that they all carried the brickmark of the Cadder works, which I think was a Glasgow works near Bishopbriggs, dating from the latter part of the 1930s.
