Bentley Continental GT Speed
I don’t know if she did it deliberately, but while I was trying to get an unobstructed view of this car a fat woman decided to perch her jumbo-sized posterior on the bike-rack just in front, and give her over-stressed and over-worked heart a little bit of a rest while she made a phone-call and eclipsed the view with her bulk.
Since she waddled off before an ambulance arrived, I guess that wasn’t what she was calling – and the bike-rack wasn’t even bent!
There’s only a tiny badge on the side to make it obvious that this is the Speed version of the Bentley Continental GT.
2017 sees this model upgraded, and the W12 48 cylinder twin turbocharged engine now has 633 bhp / 472 kW / 642 PS @5,900 rpm with 840 Nm / 620 LB ft @ 2,000rpm.
This is the fastest Bentley to date, reaching 206 mph / 331 km/h (governed) with acceleration of 0-60 mph 3.9 sec / (0-100 km/h 4.1 sec) 100 mph arrives in 9 seconds. Unladen weight (DIN) 2,750 kg / 6,063 lb so the performance is ‘adequate’.
If you have to ask, last official price I saw was about £169 k (2017 model).
Reminds of another GT I saw parked in Glasgow a few weeks ago – completely and utterly neglected, it was not only filthy outside and inside (with refuse from MacDonald’s spilled and littering the interior), but with rust on exterior metalwork and fittings. No camera to hand that day, and I’ve never seen it again.
