Secret Scotland

If it's secret, and in Scotland…

C’mon guys – give the east end a break!

About the only ‘good’ think I can say about this latest story of violence and attempted murder near Tolllcross Park (or more generally, in the east end of Glasgow) is that it took place at 10:35 am, and I’m an owl as opposed to a lark, so couldn’t have been nearby.

A hit and run driver deliberately targeted a man who was knocked over a fence in Glasgow on Boxing Day.

Police are treating the incident in the Tollcross area of the city as attempted murder.

The 32-year-old was walking along Muiryfauld Drive, beside Tollcross Park, at 10:35 when a dark-coloured car was driven at him.

He was knocked over the park’s perimeter fence, and the car drove off at speed.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he was treated for minor injuries.

I feel like just staying in bed ALL day – it might be safer.

Seriously, I used to get the online papers from the Clyde coast resorts fed in via the Internet, just to keep in touch, and at least a little up to date with past haunts.

I cancelled the lot a few years ago – they were just too depressing.

The news began to be little more than stories about families fighting, people being attacked, arson, burglary, and similar incidents. Far from keeping in touch with the touristy/holiday aspects of the places, they seemed to be WORSE than the worst places you might find in Glasgow.

Despite mandatory sentences, and stricter gun laws in Scotland, shooting seem to be unaffected.

But who needs to risk a gun, when there are plenty of other items with which to dish out violence, and not risk a 5-year minimum before you’ve even started?

violence shooting

I used to work with a guy who never had an original thought in his life, but he thought he was clever.

He’d memorised a lot of clever things said by clever people.

One of the phrase he was particularly proud of trotting out to mock colleagues having problems solving some task was…

“Did you know that one definition of insanity was to keep trying the same thing over and over while expecting a different result?”

How he survived without being thumped (Oh! MORE violence) by somebody amazed me.

On the other hand, we seem to have given up, and either don’t, or are afraid to, try new approaches to tackle the problem.

After all, we all know what the response was when the method of sending offenders on holidays was…

The “Hang ’em and flog ’em” brigade immediately mobilised and worked tirelessly to brig down anyone (politician or social worker) who dared promote such a ‘stupid idea’.

They KNEW the very idea of ‘Carrot’ rather than ‘Stick’ was just plain silly, and anyone who even suggested it had to be immediately fired.

Good plan – if you stop an innovation from being used before any analysis can be carried out… you are BOUND to be proven right!
