Secret Scotland

If it's secret, and in Scotland…

SatNav (and female) – still good for avoiding DUI charges :)

“The SatNav MADE me do it!”

I’m still amazed to see that careless driving still has a universal ‘Get of Jail Free’ card that appears to work to this day.

I find it both disturbing and intriguing to read stories of careless driving that have no mention of charges being made against the driver (of sometimes serious results and consequences) if they are able to point at their SatNav and say “The SatNav MADE me do it!”

(I’d make a joke about how females get away with motoring offences, but the PC brigade would come down on me, so you’ll just have to use your own imagination for that one now.)

It’s almost as if the authorities give them a pat on the head, a nice warm cup of tea, and some soothing words to help prevent them from suffering trauma as a result of the evil SatNav’s influence over them, and subsequent PTSD.

A car had to be recovered by the coastguard after a driver followed sat-nav instructions on to an Ayrshire beach and got stranded.

The Vauxhall Corsa with two women on board had travelled from Glasgow and was following instructions to get to Irvine Beach Park.

However, the sat-nav directed them down an access road onto the beach.

Both the driver and passenger were safe and the vehicle was pushed off the beach before high tide.

North Ayrshire beach rescue after sat-nav blunder

No mention of charges, not even the cost of calling out the coastguard and lifeboats, or the recovery of their vehicle.

According to the article, MANY were called…

“Both Troon RNLI lifeboats, Ayr and Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Teams were sent.”

When they hear the circumstances, maybe they should all have stayed in, and let Darwin Law take its natural course.

Sometimes I’m glad I’ve been priced off the road

I was taught to drive a long time ago, even starting before I was 17.

And I mean ‘taught to drive’, NOT what I see today, as people actually just seem to be taught how to pass the various parts of the driving test.

I still just keep my mouth shut, rather than offer driving advice or opinion, since the response is usually hostile, and insulting, that I might dare to suggest other are less than perfect, and that I appear to be arrogantly telling them I am (more than perfect).

However, as long as pics like this continue to turn up, while I might not dare to offer advice, even with all my faults, I think I’d rather be driven by me, than many others I see on the road today.

You would think simple ‘self-preservation’ would stop anyone with a brain cell that had not died of loneliness would not try driving like this.

Complete this sequence: Moron, Imbecile, Idiot… ?

It is. Really, it is.

The words moron, imbecile, and idiot actually mean different things.

In psychology, an idiot has the least intelligence on the IQ scale (this now is equivalent to someone who is mentally retarded or the more politically correct “mentally challenged”); an imbecile is not quite as dumb as an idiot and is now considered equivalent to moderate retardation; a moron is then the highest level of intelligence for someone who is mentally retarded, thus considered as being mildly mentally retarded.  Specifically, those who have an IQ between 0 and 25 are idiots; IQs between 26 and 50 are considered imbeciles; and those who have an IQ between 51 and 70 are considered morons.

Since Trump’s IQ is less than 0, it follows that ‘Trump’ completes the sequence Moron, Imbecile, Idiot… ?

Embarrassing to think I’ve been wrong for so long, referring to Trump as ‘The Orange Moron’.

But ‘moron’ just sounds so much better than ‘idiot’ when associated with ‘Trump’.

On the other hand, he REALLY is an idiot.

US President Donald Trump has cast doubt on a report by his own government warning of devastating effects from climate change.

Asked outside the White House about the findings that unchecked global warming would wreak havoc on the US economy, he said: “I don’t believe it.”

The report found that climate change will cost the US hundreds of billions of dollars annually and damage health.

The Trump administration has pursued a pro-fossil fuels agenda.

The world’s leading scientists agree that climate change is human-induced and warn that natural fluctuations in temperature are being exacerbated by human activity.
