Advice on wearing masks or face coverings

I’ve been watching the response to the recent ending of advice to wear masks or face coverings, and its been interesting.

Locally (which means Glasgow) there was a slow response, then it was as if everybody noticed everybody else wasn’t wearing anything, and it was almost like ‘Monkey see, monkey do’, and I see few wearers.

By way of contrast, I’ve been watching live video from the streets of Asian countries, and they have largely ignored the change, with most people still masking up, so far.

For the time being, I won’t change my habit of wearing a face covering in enclosed areas, such as shops and public transport, given the filthy habits I see some sad individuals don’t regard as disgusting.

This, of course, has nothing to do with being an awkward so-and-so, or enjoying the freedom to mouth abuse at some people from behind my face covering :-)

Keep Wearing Masks

On a more serious note, I’m intrigued, since the pandemic has not been declared as ‘Over’, although in countries like the UK measures are now being reported to have led to falling infection rates.

It will be interesting to see if this trend continues with the mask ruling change, or if that stalls, or returns to an increase.

If it did, nowadays, I almost wonder if there would be any point in telling the public, given the power the conspiracy theorists and nutjobs have proven to hold over a major portion of the population.

Now, I’d be quite happy if they said nothing (provided the information was released on sensible outlets of course), and just left Darwin to quietly remove the dross.

I also have access to a supply of ‘special’ masks, which are free for those who don’t want to follow advice from official or government sponsored sources.

Belgium apparently has ‘Bad news for coronavirus’

Since I’ve given up on the usual news, I thought I’d mention this for others who are also fed up with ‘the media’.

This is possibly a sad day, and possibly also bad news for many more, as it may mark the end of days when it’s acceptable to go out wearing a face-covering and be able to make rude, but honest, faces at all the idiots and morons that seem to fill the streets nowadays.

The most recent ‘release’ I enjoyed this face-covering option for was during a recent bus trip. I’m not sure how many of my fellow travellers would have joined in (but their faces showed growing irritation), but I think a woman on the phone was potentially close to the end of her existence as she talked (more like shouted) to some poor sod non-stop (for the half-hour I was on board) in some sort of guttural foreign/non-English language, who never got the chance of getting a word in during that time, or realised they could just have hung up, and ended her tirade, unless they were too scared of what she would do to them if they did hang up, and she arrived home none too pleased with them.

The way some people behave in public makes me wonder if their minders are lying dead, out of sight, in a pool of blood somewhere nearby.

Maybe this cartoon should be a card that can be handed to Covidiots

I had to venture out on some fairly long bus trips over the past week or two, something I’ve not really needed to do much in recent months.

Despite quite a heavy sign presence stating “Wear your mask, it’s the law, not your choice”, I’ve never seen anyone be refused access to a bus (since this came into force), while the number of people who don’t seem to be able to get their masks over their nose is growing.

Bear in mind the reason for a mask is not to protect the wearer from Covid-19, but to reduce the spread from anyone who may be infected – if the numbers have not been revises, then the effectiveness against infection is about 5%, but that rises to about 20% for preventing spread from an infected person.

So, NOT wearing a mask, or wearing it improperly, means someone who DOESN’T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT OTHERS!

I doubt there’s any chance this cartoon might ever be made into a poster – I’m pretty sure the PC Brigade would be fast to have it declared an obscene publication, and banned from public places lest it cause offence.

But I suspect that could be circumvented if private individuals had cards printed – and could hand them out, or pin them onto Covidiots wearing their masks as depicted.

I could have used this Covid-19 mask chart yesterday

After discovering my ‘Loony Magnet’ was just as effective yesterday, as it had been over a year ago (when I give up using public transport), I came across this handy chart showing the ‘Risk of Transmission’ with masks, illustrating how their effectiveness is not about preventing you getting the virus, but of preventing idiot giving it to you!

The funny thing about this chart is that the last illustration must have been modelled on the same/similar crazy that singled me out for his attention yesterday, as it shows that headcase spouting much the same shite as my clingy and unwanted ‘new best friend’.

So, masks and face coverings – seemingly most people still don’t have a clue

I still find it slightly weird and unsettling when I go out and wander among ‘ordinary’ people.

Either the education regarding masks and face covering is inadequate (which I would say it is as I had to go dig up the relevant reports online before I had any understanding behind these tools), or people are dumb. Sad to say, either option probably covers most of the people I get too close to when I’m out.

At its simplest, masking reduces the possibility of an infected person spreading the virus, rather than preventing a wearer from being infected – in the roundest of number, the last figure I saw given was that it is SEVEN time more effective at preventing a carrier from spreading than from stopping an uninfected person from being infected.

As this is mainly down to preventing an airborne spray or aerosol from getting between any two people – hence the 2 metre distancing – wandering around outside wearing a mask while alone, or driving alone, ever so slightly pointless.

Quite different in enclosed spaces of course, such as shops or public transport.

Being masked and had the double dose, I find I’m either being glared at, or told I’m ‘TOO CLOSE’ by elderly people in queues.

One day, I’m going to crack with one of them, and tell them if I’m too close, they’re free to back off, as far away from me as they like, rather than increase the risk for both of us by staying close enough and berating me with their potentially virus tainted breath and spit.

I’ve seen some interesting graphics recently, reproduced below.

The next seemingly applies to a party held in Australia, where it seems they’ve made a real hash of dealing with the pandemic.

24 Covid infections

And finally, for now at least, a video I’ve had hanging around from the start of 2021, just to see how things developed during the year.

Long enough, I think, to suggest people really should be making lists of people and companies to boycott, and drive into the wilderness.

Many companies deserve to go under as, especially in the past few weeks as lockdown has been eased for some – their owners have complained long and loud about NOT being included in the first round of easing, suggesting they will open for business regardless, as they NEED their customers back through their doors to make money.

Great way to treat your customers and your business.

Get them through your doors while the figures still say certain business remain at risk, meaning any customers who DO visit stand an increased risk of infection, and even death or disablements.

Exactly WHO will THOSE business owners be complaining to later, after they’ve killed or maimed their customers, and there aren’t enough left to keep them profitable?

Is this woman still around and being followed by a crowd of adoring morons?

I have no idea, as I would not taint my browser’s history file by searching for her – but think people like her should be held to account for their potentially dangerous/lethal nonsense.

A timely reminder that stupidity is not a valid reason for not wearing a mask/face covering

Although I don’t bother looking at the news these days – anything important arrives via my alert feeds – it was interesting to see that changes in the rules regarding Covid-19 and movement are set to change in a few days.

However, there’s still no change with respect to masks and face coverings.

I could waffle about this for ages, suffice to say that it’s hard to believe that there are anti-maskers/hoax/conspiracy theorists and just plain Covidiots out there who flatly refuse to comply with masks and face coverings.

For anyone with a brain and a few working brain cells left, it’s hard to find any sort of justification in this, or even logic, since the reasons they come up with for NOT covering up are so dumb you have to suspect they must have been taking stupid pills in order to come up with, or believe them.

And, even if you’re not fully on board with the pandemic, you might think that even the dumbest of the dumb would comply with something that might save their lives.

Anyway, I just want to add another covidiot gem to the collection.

Training only works when there’s a brain

The thing about potty training is that most of those being trained still have brains, and can be educated.

By the time they’re old enough to be instructed in proper mask use, they’ve had time to lose their minds, and more.

CVS vaccine appointments are going unfilled deep in Trump country

There was also…

The Idaho man faults himself for getting sick one week after the election, saying he bought into conspiracy theories about the coronavirus.

“Before I came down with the virus, I was one of those jackasses who thought the virus would disappear the day after the election. I was one of those conspiracy theorists. All these people that are saying that it’s fake, blah blah blah, they’re lying to themselves,” he said.

Prior to the election, then-President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter that “you won’t be hearing so much about” COVID-19 after November.

His son, Eric, had also claimed on Fox News that the coronavirus would “magically, all of a sudden go away and disappear and everyone will be able to reopen” after election day.

Trucker thought COVID would ‘disappear’ after the election – now he will be on oxygen the rest of his life

It’s a pity conspiracy theorists who spread and promote nonsense that ruins people’s lives are not held to account!

They’re no different from anyone who injures or kills someone, and deserve the same consequences for their actions.

If it was just Trump country and Trumpers, I wouldn’t care (but for the spreading issue mass denial causes), but this sort of stupid behaviour is worldwide thanks to conspiracy theorists promoting this ludicrous response.

I seldom go out unless I have to nowadays, and always choose times when ‘normal’ people are not around – being a lifelong antisocial suddenly has some advantages.

It looks as if few people have read and/or understood the guidance or reasons given for masks, what to do, and what they don’t do.

I see people in crowds, or busy areas without masks.

I see people walking completely alone in deserted areas, wearing masks.

I see people driving around, alone in their vehicles, wearing masks.

I see far too many people with masks hanging loose (since the loops have failed) and almost falling off, I see those who have them under their noses, and there seems to be a peculiar phenomenon witness in fat women, where the have the mask over their double chins, leaving their mouths and noses uncovered.

I wonder if many of them have even glanced at the studies?

I don’t know if the figures have been revised, but the last time I looked, masks really only prevent SPREADING the virus.

Effectiveness was then given as less than 25% at stopping the virus leaving an infected person or carrier.

And only around 5% at preventing someone from being infected.

Regardless of the exact figures…

Realise WHO is most likely to be affected when anti-maskers don’t wear mask.

Obviously NOT THEM!

Their supposed claims of health reasons (and I am NOT including genuinely affected people with doctor’s notes) to justify their refusal are all fantasies too, and probably deeply offensive to those genuinely affected by real medical conditions.

Covidiot Fact

Covidiot Fact

Having seen many videos of anti-maskers shouting, yelling, screaming at and abusing shop staff who have asked them to wear masks…

I liken them to triage – after hearing a doctor tell nurses to ignore the loudest crying out for help.

“Those who really need immediate attention are too weak to shout. – get to the quiet ones first, before they die”.
