Craigiehall AAOR

Rummaging around interesting places around the country (what else does one do?), Criagiehall, to the north west of Edinburgh popped up as the headquarters of the Army 2nd Division, which relates to Scotland and the north of England.

More interesting was the fact that the same site was home to an Anti-Aircraft Operations Room (AAOR), built in the 1950s as part of the country’s Cold War defence plan.

This particular building is of interest because nothing appears to be known of it, or its fate. Like the other AAORs around the country, it will have been abandoned in the 1960s, when they became obsolete as a result of the bombers they were intended to defend against becoming faster than their response time. And they were no use at all where ICBMs were concerned.

So, if you know anything about it, even just its exact location, or anyone that might know something about the building or its fate, we’d be more than a little keen to hear about it…
