It may not be obvious, but when I took this pic in ‘Sunny Scotland’ it was more or less in darkness at the end of winter (after 6 pm), so most of the light came from nearby street lighting and the like.
There’s no signature on this shutter mural. Actually, there’s no signature I can see on any of the bees, but I do wonder if they are commissions, since some of them feature the bees showing the business of the shop/business behind.
In this case, the shutter mural was collected from a (hand) car wash in Hamilton.
How I employed restraint, and didn’t make the title of this post ‘Beeware of the bees’.
Sad to say, it’s probably not so much restraint on my part, but mental fatigue, from seeing so many tearable puns on various atrocious social media posts, where morons are trying to make themselves look cleverer’ than the rest of the clowns.
I’cw come across quite a few (bees, no clever people on social media), since I found the first one hiding behind a pillar below a derelict Hamilton footbridge.
There’s definitely quite a few of these around, especially around Hamilton and Motherwell, but I’ve even found them in Glasgow (city centre).
There are differences between the various examples, but also similarities, so I’m not entirely sure if someone is running off bogus copies, or if there’s a variety of types within the ‘family’.
I have to confess I wasn’t paying proper attention, and only later came to realise these were ;shutter murals’, related to the business behind,
I forget what the first shop was, you’ll just have to make a best guess from the bee apparently being depicted as a ‘fashion victim’.
The second pair is easier, as I’m pretty sure that was a barbers shop.
As per a previous post, the mural that was painted on the community centre building (actually the Crossroads Youth & Community Association) back in 2018 to mark the passing of Stan Lee was expected to last only until the following spring, as the artist then indicated other work was due to be placed there.
However, it’s now 2023, and that mural is still there, and has even been added to.
But, there is more artwork to be found, on adjacent walls of the centre building.
I caught some more on the day I collected the extended parts of the Lee mural, and it seems there is more I didn’t seem to notice at the time – not sure if I was dreaming, or those parts were yet to be added.
It looks as if I’ll have to make another trip to complete the current set, as I don’t like missing bits that look good, and what I was shown does seem to look worth collecting.
It’s just another confirmation that the mural scene is fluid, and is constantly changing, and hiving covered an area and collected some goodies is no guarantee that it won’t change.
Two more centre wall murals, WITH BEES!
I collected this pair while I was there, and don’t know why I didn’t see more – maybe they weren’t, maybe I wasn’t paying attention, or was distracted.
I’m not sure if this wall is down to the resident artist (responsible for the Lee mural), or was a guest piece, or even graffiti (not ‘official’), but it features the same bees (and other repeating characters) I’ve followed from Hamilton to Glasgow, and can be found in other posts
However, the main feature is on another wall, and is much more involved, and signed by the resident artist.
